Car showrooms in 1962 were almost exclusively filled with British-made vehicles. The sign on the car in the centre shows that you could have a new "Sunbeam Rapier Convertible" with Heater and Windscreen Washers for the grand sum of £1087.13/11d. With, no doubt, a long list of extras: number plates, purchase tax, overdrive, etc.
A similar car was sold on eBay recently in "excellent condition" for £12,000, so a careful owner could have had 50 years of driving and finally, taking account of inflation, got back in real terms what they had originally paid for the car!
